On-Call Services, Closed Circuit Television Expansion Project (CCTV), and Terminal Redevelopment Program

JWG was part of a team of consultants in a multiyear capital development program to enhance IT systems and to provide increased support for Delta Airlines at the Salt Lake City International Airport. As part of that project, the team has been involved with the coordination and design of numerous IS and building programs simultaneously including the development of an ITMP providing a roadmap for IT Project implementation, enhancing the existing CCTV system, developing a Continuity of Operations Plan, enhancements to the communications infrastructure and most recently systems design for all special systems associated with the Terminal Redevelopment Program.

The team has worked closely with the airport planning and engineering staff, the IT staff and other supporting Architects and Engineers to deliver a coordinated design effort for an Information Technology Master Plan. The plan integrated the airport’s operational goals and business objectives with suitable recommendations and IT solutions. The ITMP provides a well-designed strategy and approach for IT projects and implementations that has served as the design basis for several IT initiatives, including the systems included in the Terminal Redevelopment Program.

The team has supported the implementation of recommendations from the ITMP, including a Closed Circuit Television Expansion Project (CCTV), development of a Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP), communications infrastructure enhancements, and the Terminal Redevelopment Program. The team performed the design for the CCTV expanded system which consists of new IP cameras that were networked through an expanded local area network that spans the entire airport campus. This project was completed in 2012. Team members were also tasked with developing the overall requirements for a Continuity of Operations Plan specific to the Airport. The results of this effort was a COOP template and recommended implementation plan for developing the airport-wide COOP that was integrated with the airport’s mandated disaster recovery plan and emergency processes and procedures. Following, the development of the COOP template, an IT Division COOP was completed that was specific to the IT Division and in-line with the overall airport-wide COOP template. Future phases are anticipated to include the airport-wide COOP that applies to all divisions throughout the airport.

Most recently, the team is performing all design, phasing coordination, and planning associated with the TRP. The systems designed and supported as part of this effort include the communications infrastructure, local area networks, Electronic Visual Information Display System, Common/Shared Use Passenger Processing, Access Control and Visual Surveillance systems, Automated Passport Control, Common Use Self-Service, Cellular Distributed Antenna System, wireless networks for operational, tenant, and public use, Resource Management System, Airport Operational Database, telephony, and a Computerized Maintenance Management System. Design and construction documentation, as well as construction cost estimates are being developed for these systems.

Infrastructure Technology Master Plan (ITMP) On-Call Services

Project team members developed the business and technical requirements for the Information Technology Master Plan for Salt Lake City International Airport. The plan integrated the airport’s operational goals and business objectives with suitable recommendations and IT solutions. This ITMP provides a well-designed strategy and approach for IT projects and implementations throughout the next three to five years. The plan specifically focused on the short term needs of the Department of Aviation while recommending IT solutions that complement the new terminal facility.

Salt Lake City Airport is in the beginning phases of a long term terminal expansion program to support the growth of airline service into the region. Project team members are participating as the primary Information Technology, security, safety, and operations consultant on a multi-year on-call services contract with a diverse group of planning consultants. The initial phase of work includes development of an IT and Security Master Plan which addressed all IT systems as well as access control, CCTV, perimeter security, intrusion detection, baggage handling, command and control center and emergency operations center planning.

Closed Circuit Television Expansion Project

The Salt Lake City Department of Airports recently expanded their existing closed circuit television system (CCTV). As part of an overall design team, JWG personnel have performed the design of the supporting infrastructure which includes a local area network, new communications rooms, and a fiber optic backbone system to support the addition of approximately 385 new cameras. The expanded system consists of new IP cameras which will be networked through an expanded local area network that spans the entire airport campus.
