San Antonio International Airport (airport code SAT) is located eight miles north of downtown. The airport's two terminals, A and B, see over eight million visitors each year. Terminal A was recently renovated while the new Terminal B was finished in 2010. Twelve airlines serve passengers with 31 non-stop destinations across the US and in Mexico.
San Antonio International Airport is in the process of a complete IT Infrastructure Modernization Project. The first task in this project was to perform an assessment of the communications infrastructure supporting the overall airport campus. JWG personnel were tasked with completing the assessment which included a review of the existing conditions of the cable infrastructure (outside and inside plant), a basis of design for future cable infrastructure and local area network, and a phasing approach for implementing the recommended enhancements. XIP personnel served under separate contract as IT Program Manager to provide strategic IT coordination and Owner project oversight. JWG personnel performed design related services and XIP personnel provided IT PM oversight for a complete structured cabling system and local area network throughout the entire campus. This design entails identifying locations, design and construction of new communications rooms and outside plant distribution nodes, design of the fiber optic and copper backbone, and design of the supporting local area network. The communications infrastructure will ultimately support all low voltage systems on the Airport campus. Also included in the design is a phasing and migration plan to migrate from the current conditions to the new communications infrastructure while keeping all systems operational.
The JW Group was part of a team to develop a technology master plan for the San Antonio International Airport. Included in the ITMP was a review and analysis of the technology systems and infrastructure throughout the airport campus. The ITMP developed recommended projects for implementation for a five year planning period and provided project descriptions, full life cycle budget estimates, implementation durations, project dependencies, and a recommended schedule for performing the recommended projects. The information developed as part of the ITMP is being used to develop procurement documentation for design, planning, and consulting services associated with the project implementations. The JW Group provided recommendations for IT systems and infrastructure including wireless network, paging, horizontal cabling, AVI and taxi dispatch, asset management/maintenance management, capital planning and programming, properties, concessions, lease and revenue management, mobile applications, common use passenger processing and IT governance.
